Our MS in Applied Statistics will give you the deep knowledge and hands-on experience needed to tackle problems of statistical design, analysis, and control in business, industry, or academia. You will learn diverse areas of statistics by exploring foundational theory as well as applying statistics to solve real-world problems through project work. You can choose electives with a theoretical or industrial emphasis, including a capstone that may be conducted with an outside sponsor.
Our program prepares graduates for careers in industry or a PhD program in applied mathematics or other related field. Our alumni have continued as PhD students at universities such as Harvard School of Public Health, University of Connecticut, University of Colorado, University of North Carolina, and WPI. Others have gone on to careers with prestigious companies such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Genetic Institute, Harvard Pilgrim Insurance, MCI, Parexel International, Read-Rite Corporation, Weather Services International, and government agencies.
