Custodial services are provided on a daily basis, Monday through Friday, in every facility. Custodians are responsible for keeping the common areas of each building clean, providing minor, routine maintenance (replacing light bulbs, toilet paper, etc.), emptying trash, and inspecting and maintaining each building. Custodians do not clean individual student rooms and students are responsible for placing their trash and recyclables in the appropriate receptacles. Your building custodians work hard for you and WPI. Please respect what they do and make the effort to get to know them.
Maintenance and Work Orders
We try to provide accommodations that are both comfortable and functional. If something in your room or hall is not functioning properly, please report it to a member of your Resident Advisor(RA) staff. Upon receiving the report, we will submit a work order request to the Department of Facilities. If an emergency situation arises when your RA is not available, contact another staff member in your building, Campus Police, or Residential Services.
Keys and Access Control
Exterior doors to all residence halls are locked 24 hours a day to keep unwanted individuals out of the residence halls. Room keys are issued by Residential Services at the beginning of every school year. All keys are the property of the university and may not be duplicated and/or transferred to other persons. Students are expected to keep their keys with them at all times. If the keys are lost, stolen, or not returned after termination of occupancy, the resident will be billed the cost of changing the locks. It is a violation of college policy to lend or make available for use, any key(s) to a room/apartment, to anyone other than the occupant of that room/apartment.
Residence hall doors must be kept locked at all times. Tampering with locks in the residence hall is prohibited. Disciplinary action including restitution may result from these actions. If you are locked out of your room, you may obtain a key from Residential Services during office hours; otherwise, contact your Resident Advisor or Campus Police. Learn more about ID Card Services.
All students living in campus housing must be on a meal plan, with the exception of those students living in Ellsworth/Fuller apartments, East Hall, and Faraday Hall. Students may view meal plan options on the Dine on Campus website. Once a student has contracted for food service, the commitment remains in effect for the entire academic year. Changes in meal plans may be made within the first 2 weeks of Terms A and C only.
Coin-operated washers and dryers are available in common areas of Daniels Hall, the Ellsworth/Fuller apartments, Founders and Institute Halls, and the four residential houses.
Elevators are located in East, Faraday, Daniels, Founders, Institute, Riley and Morgan Halls.
Cars and Parking
Parking is maintained by WPI Campus Police; please visit their website for information on obtaining a parking pass.
Campus transportation is manage through WPI Campus police.
Vendor Services for Students
WPI has established contracts with the following vendors to provide optional services for students. Part of the proceeds from these services go towards providing student programming in the residence halls. Specific information regarding signing up for any of these services will be sent in mid-July along with your housing assignment.
E&R Cleaners of Manchester, NH operates an optional contract service for students for their laundry and dry cleaning. Students can drop off and pick up their laundry right on campus. Rental of bed and bath linens is also available through E & R. Information regarding signing up for the optional laundry service will be sent out in July or you may order online.
Our residence halls and apartments contain extra-long beds (36" by 80") which require special linens to comfortably fit the mattresses. While extra-long sheets are available in stores, we have made arrangements with Residence Hall Linens to provide you with the option of ordering linen sets through the mail. Residence Hall Linens will provide you with high quality, extra-long linens, mailed to your home or on-campus address. An information packet included with the housing mailing describes the products and special packages that are available. Make sure you order by the deadline so that your linens will be delivered to your home or campus on time.
We have contracted with a vendor that provides summer storage solutions for students. Boomerang Storage will pick up your items at the end of the year and return them to you at the beginning of the following year.
