Milestone Year for Continuing Ed
n June, WPI marked the 20th anniversary of the Office of Continuing Education (OCE) with a reception and dinner in Founders Hall. The event also honored the 159 individuals from 66 companies who have graduated from OCE's Professional Development Certificate programs.
Since its establishment in 1977, OCE has delivered more than 3,200 training programs to 52,000 business and technical professionals. To fulfill its mission of serving the lifelong learning needs of adults and organizations through the creation of world-class professional development programs in management and technology, OCE now offers public seminars, customized corporate training, hands-on information technology programs, and faculty short courses. Classes meet on the WPI campus in Worcester, at branch campuses in Southborough and Waltham, and at corporate sites throughout the nation.
Arlene Lowenstein, who has served as director of continuing education since 1991, was recently promoted to dean of continuing studies. In addition to guiding the OCE, Lowenstein will now lead WPI's efforts to provide exceptional educational opportunities to adult learners. "As we loo ahead we see very exciting opportunities for adult learners at WPI," says Lowenstein. "We are fully committed to developing and presenting the world-class training programs that business and industry have come to expect from us."
