Canvas Newsletter - Summer Quarantine Edition
Department(s):
Academic Technology CenterWelcome back WPI Faculty! Over the summer, Canvas has been busy making some much needed updates and introduced some new features to help you settle into our new normal of online & hybrid delivery. If that wasn’t enough buzzwords for you: in this unprecedented time, it is vital to pivot to a flexible pedagogical model. Canvas is prepared to meet the rigorous demand of WPI’s distinctive academics.
And now for something completely different:
New Rich Content Editor Interface
The toolbar includes a condensed, more intuitive look. The content selector (the right-side menu where you used to add files) has been deprecated. It’s responsive, so it’s easier to use on tablets and smaller monitors, and it now includes a 24 hour auto-save option.
Share Content with Instructors or Other Course Sites
Users can copy individual course items to another course and share individual items with other users. (How to share content)
View All Past System Announcements
Click on Account > Global Announcements to view a list of all current and past system announcements
Bulk Edit Assignment Dates
The Assignments page in Canvas now supports editing all assignment, discussion, and quiz dates in a single page. (How to bulk edit assignment dates)
Bulk Delete Pages
The Pages index in Canvas now supports deleting multiple Pages at once. (This is being released on 8/15/2020)
Multiple File Upload via Drag and Drop in Modules
You may now drag and drop multiple files at once to add or upload content to a Module.
Limited Assignment Submission Attempts
Submission attempts can now be limited in Canvas assignments. (How to limit submission attempts)
Display Published & Unpublished Courses
The Dashboard, Courses menu, and All Courses page display both published and unpublished courses. Published and Unpublished courses are separated into 2 sections on the Dashboard. (How to customize Dashboard)
Mute Notifications by Course
Users can mute all notifications for a course where the user is enrolled. The Course Notification Settings page allows users to mute all notifications for a course where the user is enrolled. Additionally, users can enable or disable specific course notifications. (How to mute notifications by course)
That’s all for the new and exciting updates to Canvas this Summer. I’m sorry we can’t be together in person to enjoy some snacks and chat about Canvas for the “5th Annual Canvas Camp” in the basement of the library. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to miss that place!
