Assistant Professor Mohamed Eltabakh attended the 41st International Conference on VERY LARGE DATA BASES, which was held on the big Island of Hawai'i.
This premier international forum for database researchers, vendors, developers, and practitioners wasn't all work. It also included the chance to visit Halema'uma'u, snorkel with manta rays, and hike to the summit of Mauna Kea.
Chuan Lei, a joint Ph.D. student of Professor Eltabakh and Rundensteiner, who just a few days before had successfully defended his dissertation in big data and now took a position in the NEC Research Lab in California, presented their collaborative research work on efficient query execution in big data, titled 'Shared Execution of Recurring workloads in MapReduce' at the conference.
