Pre-collegiate Outreach Programs seeking hosts for internship opportunities to High School Students
Department(s):
Pre-Collegiate Outreach
The Office of Pre-collegiate Outreach Programs is seeking faculty, graduate students, and lab managers who would like to host high school students, virtually, in their labs during C/D Term and the summer.
- The Engineering & Technology Academy at Doherty High School (Worcester Public Schools) engages students in STEM activities, delivers challenging coursework, and provides assistance in preparing for college. In 12th grade, students participate in an apprenticeship for them to apply their engineering knowledge and competency in an 80-hour STEM experience, running from the end of February to early in May. All placements will be entirely virtual.
- Through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) High School Apprenticeship Challenge, high school students (entering 11 & 12) are hosted in areas across campus. This program provides Worcester Public School students an opportunity to gain technical knowledge and professional skills. Apprenticeships can be part-time or full-time and take place between June 25 - August 13, 2021. MLSC pays students hourly, up to 40 hours per week for the 7-weeks. All placements will be entirely virtual for summer 2021.
This is a great opportunity for you to have additional help in your lab AND an impactful experience for local high school students. Our office will provide administrative support such a running an orientation, up CORI checks, gathering liability forms, collecting emergency contact information, and paying the students for MLSC. The faculty, graduate student, or lab manager would be responsible for working with the student in regards to tasks and their schedule.
