Summer Virtual Immersion in Biomedical Engineering (VIBE) Program

The summer VIBE 2024 program is now open and accepting applications

The Virtual Immersion in Biomedical Engineering (VIBE) program aims to provide a virtual team-based design experience for BME undergraduate students, especially women, underrepresented and first-generation students.

The VIBE program was launched in the summer of 2021. Students from across the world participated in the program. The program continues to grow, in 2023, we had over 180+ participants from 76 universities and 11 countries taking part in the program and 60% of the participants identified as women.

The 2024 Program will run from Tuesday, May 28 - Friday, July 19, 2024.  There will be an info session on May 17, 2024.  Please register using the forms linked below.

This year, participants can attend the program using one of two options: Free or register for university credit. Participants can earn 1.5 credit hours for a lab-based course. Please use the following link to register for the course:

Students will participate in an 8-week, team-based, virtual BME design challenge which will end in a video pitch competition.

The program will consist of 3 parts:

  1. Team-based BME design project: Students will learn about the engineering design process and work on team-based projects within the theme of global health and biomedical engineering solutions for low-resourced communities. The program will culminate with a 3-minute video pitch contest of the designs (1-3hrs/week).
  2. Professional Development Seminars: Students will participate in professional development seminars. Topics will include resume writing, presentation skills, time-management and working in teams effectively (1hr/week)
  3. Coffee & Conversations: Students will be invited to weekly seminars with BME faculty and professionals in the field to learn about the various aspects of BME (1hr/week).
