Welcome to Chemistry & Biochemistry
Chemists and Biochemists study the actions and interactions of atoms and molecules. These fundamental studies can lead to the creation of new materials, the discovery of both causes and cures for diseases, and methods for cleaning up our environment. Our faculty and students work on a broad range of topics including building devices to monitor levels of electrolytes in the blood, studying the movement of metals across membranes, detecting the response of molecules as they absorb light and creating molecules that self-assemble to form complexes that can be used for storage of other molecules e.g. drugs or hydrogen for fuel cells. Our programs, at both the undergraduate and graduate level, are designed to get students in labs as soon as possible, to give them the opportunity to make exciting discoveries of their own.
