Research
Literary translation of contemporary German authors, and German literature and culture of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries are my primary areas of scholarly interest. I have published translations of works by Bertolt Brecht, Anna Mitgutsch, and Perikles Monioudis and written critical books and articles on the writers Alfred Döblin, Christa Wolf, Ingeborg Bachmann, Joseph Roth, Kay Boyle, and Eugene Jolas.
Another area of interest is teaching German as a second language. With Professor Thomas Hansen of Wellesley College I am the author of the textbook Neue Horizonte, whose seventh edition will appear in 2007. With Professor Susanne Even of Indiana University I am working on a bilingual novel for university-level readers.
