Resources for Advisors
The following links are resources for WPI faculty members who wish to learn more about the experience of off-campus project advising, or for new off-campus project advisors who wish to prepare for this important assignment.
IQP Advising Resources
This link will take you to a variety of resources intended to make the advising of IQPs easier and more satisfying. There are both teaching tools and assessment tools for all aspects of the IQP. Our contributors have advised many projects on and off campus and have shared what they have learned in the process, the benefits of which you will see in the materials posted on this site. All suggestions are very welcomed as IGSD plans to monitor and revise this site frequently. Please copy any materials you wish and alter them to suite your own needs.
Operational Handbook for Advisors Traveling Off-Campus
Congratulations! You are beginning to prepare for one of the most meaningful experiences that you will encounter while at WPI. A successful off-campus experience does not just occur; it requires careful consideration of things you will need to do before you leave, and while at your off-campus site. Natalie Mello, Director of Global Operations in the Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division (IGSD) in consultation with the appropriate professional experts on campus has developed this document to outline these considerations. In order to insure that you have a successful experience, the Going Global at WPI Operational Handbook has been compiled from a number of sources to provide as much practical information as possible that may be applicable to all project sites. This Handbook was prepared to inform the resident faculty advisor who anticipates advising in the Global Perspective Program during this academic year and is meant to be used in conjunction with the Going Global site specific handbook distributed to all participants (students and advisors).
Off-Campus Incident Report
This form is intended for use by faculty advising at an off-campus project site in case of an occurrence involving property damage or personal injury involving the faculty or students at a site.
Projects Program
The WPI Projects Program Web site contains many valuable resources, including the Directory of Available Projects.
Requirements for Individually Sponsored Residential Projects (ISRPs)
Students and faculty may augment the opportunities available at formal project centers and programs with individually sponsored residential, off-campus projects. These guidelines cover the requirements for formulating such projects so that that they adhere to common, carefully structured risk management protocols.
Explore Completed Projects
To review the many and diverse topics that WPI students have tackled through projects completed around the world and on campus, search the completed projects database.
Advisor Development Series
A hands-on series of lunchtime workshops designed to help you be a better project advisor whether a Humanities and Arts Experience, IQP or MQP.
