M*A*S*H /Tutor Program

 

M*A*S*H Leaders and Tutors

The M*A*S*H Leaders and Tutors are upper-class students who have been particularly successful in their academic work.  They have been trained and are certified by the College of Reading and Learning Association.  They help other students who are learning the material for the first time.  They know the course material, and know what the instructor expects.  Their job is to help you think about what you heard in the class lecture, have read in your textbooks, master new concepts, learn new vocabulary and put ideas into perspective.

 

M*A*S*H PROGRAM

M*A*S*H review sessions are offered for the math and science courses that are critical for first year success.  The M*A*S*H program has helped WPI students make the transition between high school learning patterns and the necessary habits and skills needed for college work.

In M*A*S*H sessions you will meet with other students who are taking the same course. You can discuss any difficulties you are having understanding the material or a specific problem, talk about the class, compare notes, discuss assignments and lectures, as well as ask questions and improve your study skills.  M*A*S*H allows you to test your understanding of the course before the instructor tests you.  Each session is guided by a M*A*S*H leader who has taken the course before and understands what you are experiencing.

During the first week of the term, your M*A*S*H leader will introduce him or herself to the class and announce when and where the M*A*S*H sessions will be held.  You may and are encouraged to attend as many sessions during the term as you wish.  Each session will be different as new material will have been covered and new questions posed.  Bring your class material (texts, notes and assignments) and your questions.

 

TUTOR PROGRAM

Tutoring sessions, unlike M*A*S*H sessions, allows students to work one-on-one with a tutor rather than in a group.  Tutors are able to offer assistance in a wide range of courses, and do not concentrate on just one course.

They are available Monday through Friday in the Academic Resources Center (ARC), 1st floor of Daniels Hall.  The course list as well as the days and times of availability are posted outside the center.
