Women's basketball edges MIT in overtime on the road

by Mike Newcomb
Sports Editor

The WPI women's basketball team was on the road last Saturday, and came home with a big overtime win against NEWMAC rival MIT, 54-53. Rachel Zimet (Trumansburg, NY) stole the show once again, scoring 17 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, leading both teams in each category. The victory brings WPI to 3-2 in conference play with two games remaining. MIT drops to 5-2 in NEWMAC games.

Zimet, a junior, was 8-12 from the field along with a free throw and a steal in just 29 minutes of play. Freshman Allison Wing (Brewer, ME) finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists on the afternoon. Wing also hit two clutch 3-point shots.

The women finish the season with a pair of conference games in Worcester. Tonight they play across town at Clark, and then finish up the season with a home game against Babson on Saturday. Tipoff is at 2:00pm, and admission to Harrington Auditorium is free. Come out and support the team!
