The goal of the WPI libertarians is to foster education and awareness of the libertarian philosophy, the Libertarian Party, and Libertarian candidates in Massachusetts. We plan to act through a series of campaigns that highlight how the government-even with the best of intentions-hurts people. We also hope to change the tenor of debate from "What should the government do?" to "Should the government be doing this?" We'll be meeting every Thursday at 8pm in the Fuller 3rd Floor Lounge. Email freedom@wpi.edu for more information.

Congratulations to our Mock Trial team for placing 9th at the Regional! That's our highest placing ever! On the agenda for this semester is the debate with the Cambridge Union on March 28th, an environmental conference that we'll co-sponsor with GAEA, and hopefully a campus-wide debate about the war on drugs. We're also trying to top our Quadfest booth from last year and decided on a movie for our Semesterly movie night. So come join us at 5pm on Tuesdays in the Beckett Conference Room!
Now into the fourth week of the season, the WPI/Mass Academy FIRST Robotics Team is still going strong. The robot is now designed and minor glitches on different systems are being worked out. The majority of the components are well on their way to being done or are completed already. Gompei 2001 is also known as the spider-goat, due to the legs that extend and raise it above the ground and the "manibles" for ball handling. The date for having a functional robot has been set as February 9 and the unveiling of Gompei 2001 is scheduled to be held on February 16. Gompei 2001 will then take the field in competition for the first time on March 1-3, 2001 at the UTC New England Regional.
First of all, go check out the board on Daniels 1st (outside the mailroom). It contains a piece put together by Joey Bufanda entitled "In the Life: African American LGBT History." It is beautiful and informative. Thank you Joey! Also, encourage people not to post on top of the piece on the board and not to rip pages off of it or deface it in any other way. Last week was great! On Monday we watched What Makes a Family together and discussed it afterwards. On Tuesday we had another round of our weekly evening support/discussion group and lunch meeting. We also had our C-term open meeting on Thursday night in Founders B, we talked about a lot of business and saw some new faces. We also need people to start thinking about helping us put together our film festival (March 28th, mark your calendars!)-we need people to work on publicity and working out possible loose ends. Finally, we would like to thank Dawn Johnson of Minority Affairs and Outreach for helping us fund our upcoming film festival. If you have questions, comments (be nice), or ideas, email bilaga@wpi.edu.
Yesterday was a fun filled day packed with a Slashdot punch supplied from the infamous Jeff Bates, also known as "Hemos." The presentation covered the birth of Slashdot, the new SlashCode engine, the hardware behind the site, the truth about banner ads and "The Real Deal (TM)" with Jon Katz. The evening closed with a trip to the Boynton and dinner with Hemos.Upcoming ACM Fun: Intel Fab tour and presentation. First Annual ACM Cardboard SmackDown. Our God is an awesome God! Check out Psalm 97. Verse one gives the theme: "The LORD reigns, let the earth be glad." The next verses describe God's awesome power and his righteousness. In comparison to him, we must all bow our hearts to him and confess that he is perfectly righteous in all that he is and does and we are not. Verse seven reminds us of the folly of worshiping idols. We aren't sacrificing children to statues, but
if the goal of our lives is to get the most money, the coolest car and the biggest house, then we're still worshiping idols. This most excellent psalm's ending describes the lives of those who love God: they rejoice and hate evil, their lives are guarded from the hands of the wicked, light and joy is shed upon them, and they praise God's holy name. Yes, our God is an awesome God!
The good news is that this perfectly holy and perfectly righteous God who blesses his beloved people sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross in our place and defeat death. God will forgive our sins and adopt us as his children if we repent and believe in Jesus Christ! If you are not yet one of God's children, then, as Christ's ambassador, I urge you to be reconciled to God! God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God!
Congratulations to Vice President Janelle Smith for successfully running her first SGA meeting! The Committee on Elections would like to remind everyone that elections for the Campus hearing Board are coming in April. Also, the Committee on Student Life Issues has announced that movie tickets for Showcase Cinemas North will be sold in the SGA office during regular hours for $6. They are also starting a Pub Investigation Committee to look into the possibility of bringing back a watering hole specifically for those over 21.
The Committee on Public Relations is proud to announce that it will be starting a Senator Liaison Program. Soon, everyone on campus will be receiving e-mail from a senator (chosen at random) updating them on current SGA events. The Committee on Academic Issues is currently working on alternatives to a WPI Honor Code, including amendments to the existing Honesty Policy. At our next meeting, the SGA hopes to finally deal with the issue of whether to help fund the Glee Club's trip. If you're wondering what we do and how we work, come to SGA meetings held every Tuesday at 6 PM in the Lower Wedge.
