ne hundred secondary school teachers from throughout Massachusetts came to campus in May for the third annual Massachusetts Conference on Mathematical Modeling in the Secondary Classroom. The conference was sponsored by the Massachusetts Academy of Mathematics and Science at Worcester.
"Mathematical modeling is the open-ended application of mathematical ideas and skills to real-world problems," explains conference chair Joshua Abrams, a master teacher at the academy, who notes that the teachers engaged in meaningful, hands-on team projects to solve problems.
