Helpdesk Specialist*
Helpdesk Specialists provide phone, e-mail and in-person support for computing inquiries from the WPI community (faculty, staff, and students). They also perform extensive remote troubleshooting of issues.Required Skills:
- Experience with supported platforms and common applications (Windows 7, Vista, OS X, Microsoft Office)
- Prior experience supporting computers and devices in a networked environment
- Prior experience assisting friends and family with computer problems and questions
- Basic networking experience (wireless setup and troubleshooting)
- Basic malware removal experience
- Great communication skills - both oral and written
- Patience and maturity
- Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
- Willingness to learn and research computer solutions and WPI IT procedures
Distribution Specialist*
The Helpdesk Distribution Specialist provides in-person support for laptop and media distribution to the WPI community (faculty, staff, and students). They assist in categorizing and triaging Helpdesk requests in our call tracking system as well as provide support for the print center and information commons.Required Skills:

Documentation Specialist - Helpdesk
Documentation Specialists should possess great writing skills to help author and edit content on web pages, solutions in the ticketing system, processes, procedures, etc. Work involves authoring and reviewing content for technical accuracy and readability for the appropriate audience. We seek an enthusiastic person with a good sense of humor and a good work ethic. This position reports to the Content, Training & Communications team.
Required Skills
- Experience with supported platforms and common applications (Windows 7, Vista, OS X, Microsoft Office 2010/11 )
- Experience assisting friends and family with computer problems and questions is a plus
- Great communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
- Willingness to learn and research computer solutions and WPI IT procedures
Office Assistant - CCC Office
The Office Assistant will work in the main office of the Computing & Communication Center providing general office assistance.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Greeting visitors
- Answering the telephone for the CCC and main WPI operator's line
- Assisting WPI staff and faculty when ordering and picking up computer supplies
- Other office tasks as assigned

Windows Support Assistant - CCC Office
The Windows Support Assistant works with the CCC Windows Group on a variety of tasks including (but not limited to) software deployment testing, lab management, and Lab image maintenance (Ghost & ImageX), as well as interfacing with frontline support at the Helpdesk and CCC Shop. This position offers the opportunity to play a pivotal support role in a dynamic Windows client/server environment, and the chance to develop real-world on-the-job skills. The Windows Group is responsible for 13 Public Labs, several special purpose labs as well as the third level support for desktop systems throughout the campus. The Windows Group also manages the Exchange Mail system, and the ADMIN and STUDENT domains.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of Windows systems (server knowledge a benefit)
- Good diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication skills
Programmer - Information Security
Information Security requires a programmer for a number of projects over the course of the year. In addition, this position has some light system administration duties. Students are expected to have the following skills.
- Prior programming experience in one of the following languages: Java, Perl, Python, C#
- Basic experience with Linux and Windows operating system
- Basic experience with networking and networking concepts
- Good communication skills
- Curiosity and a desire to learn, a willingness to research problems and solutions

Network Operations and Telecommunications
Network Operations and Telecommunications are looking for a small number of workstudy students to assist in basic day to day tasks and routine projects and maintenance. Duties will include:
- Assist in installation of equipment including switches, wireless access points, and telephones
- Activation of network ports
- Troubleshooting of user network connectivity problems, including wired and wireless
- Other duties as assigned
No prior experience is necessary. Preferred skills include:
- Knowledge of basic networking
- Computer troubleshooting
- Strong desire to learn
- Motivated self-starter
Limited departmental funds are available for those without Federal workstudy funds. Additional consideration will also be given to those with one or more of the following skill sets:
- Autocad experience
- Perl, CGI, and SQL programming experience
