Gabriela M. Romero – Third prize winner at SHPE 2013
Gabriela M. Romero, a BME junior, won the third place in a “scientific paper” competition at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) conference 2013 held at Indianapolis, IN from October 30 to November 03, 2013. Gabriela was one of 22 student participants nationwide invited to present the paper after a preliminary screening. She presented a paper entitled “Nickel chloride-mediated protein attachment to molybdenum disulfide for biosensing applications” based on the summer internship project she did as part of the SUNFEST (Summer Undergraduate Fellowship in Sensor Technologies) REU program co-sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania and NSF. She worked in the laboratory of Professor Charlie Johnson in the Experimental Nanoscale Physics lab at UPenn.
