Jeffrey S. Solomon

Jeff is the executive vice president and chief financial officer at WPI. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the accounting and treasury operations, budget and planning, construction, renovation, and maintenance of the university’s physical facilities, investment management, procurement, risk and compliance, WPI Police, and IT and the Unified Digital Campus initiative. Prior to joining WPI, Jeff was at Brandeis University for 11 years, most recently as its vice president, chief investment officer, and chief risk officer. A certified public accountant and a former audit manager at Coopers & Lybrand, Jeff received degrees from Brandeis University and Bentley College.

Charlene Bellows

Charlene manages the administrative activities of the Controller’s Office. Her areas of responsibility include financial accounting and reporting, tax compliance, sponsored research accounting, endowment and investment reporting, accounts payable, fixed assets, and debt compliance. Charlene is the main liaison with the university’s external auditors for the annual audit and serves as staff to the Audit Committee. Prior to joining WPI, Charlene held accounting management positions in retail and manufacturing, and spent 10 years in public accounting.   • Assistant Vice President for Facilities

Fred focuses on creative problem-solving and management in the areas of campus planning, design, construction, facilities operations, customer service, and safety at WPI’s 95-acre campus, with more than 2.4 million square feet of building space within 89 buildings, of which two—soon to be four—are LEED-Certified. He serves on the President’s Task Force on Sustainability and has presented to numerous local, regional, and professional groups about WPI’s growing efforts in sustainability. Fred serves as student advisor to undergraduates, as well as graduate and doctoral candidates. He works in tandem with academic departments on student projects, such as studying the application of BIM from design through construction and into facilities operations. With his colorful personality, Fred is passionate about the positive impact and support the physical environment can have on living, learning, and working at WPI. With a BS in architectural engineering from Roger Williams University and an MBA from Western New England University, Fred is also an associate member of the American Institute of Architects as well as a member of the Society for College& University Planning. After seven years practicing at a full-service architectural firm, he transitioned into facilities management, where for more than 25 years he has managed educational and health care facilities in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and New Mexico, joining WPI in 2007.  Visit the Facilities site to learn more...

Yvonne serves as a liaison between the Finance & Operations department, IT resources, and the WPI Unified Digital Campus (UDC) project teams. She participates in cross-divisional teams engaged in promoting data stewardship, data access, and applying administrative systems best practices to the university. In her position, Yvonne applies practical business experience and technical knowledge to collaborate with other staff to support the initiatives of the UDC. Brenda joined the Finance & Operations team in February 2012. She brings with her more than 35 years of previous executive assistant experience in the corporate fields of finance, sales, and marketing, and most recently, biotechnology. As the executive assistant to the executive vice president and chief financial officer, Brenda focuses primarily on the daily operations affecting the CFO and his numerous campus responsibilities. She also oversees the functionality of the office and is the administrator of the purchasing card program. She assists the assistant vice president for Budget & Planning, the university controller, and the university compliance officer on special projects as needed.

Cheryl is the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police at WPI, responsible for management and operation of the WPI Police department, the oversight of the university’s Access Control System, and the Student EMS and Transportation services. Chief Martunas has 30 years of law enforcement experience, including 26 years in a campus setting. She spent 12 years of her career as an officer and sergeant with the WPI Police department prior to becoming the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police at both Quinsigamond Community College and Dean College, returning to WPI in 2006. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College, is a full-time graduate of the MCJTC Municipal Police Academy, and attended and graduated from the Command Officers Training School at Babson College.  Visit the WPI Police site to learn more...

Deborah became CIO at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2010 and leads the IT team that implements the full range of IT solutions for the WPI campus, including: networking, telecommunications, enterprise information systems, hosting services for administrative and academic software applications, information security, research computing, academic and classroom technology, as well as providing high-speed Internet through the Goddard GigaPop to WPI and surrounding colleges and nonprofit organizations. Deborah came to WPI from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where she was Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer for the Division of Student Affairs. Prior to UCSB, Deborah was Director of Information Systems/Technology at several companies, including Rockwell International and Raytheon. Nancy manages the operations of the of Financial Services department and is responsible for establishing and maintaining university banking relationships for a wide array of services. She also assists the WPI community with implementation of payment processing solutions for their business needs. In addition, Nancy leads a staff responsible for the billing and collection of student tuition and fees and other student billing-related functions, including oversight of the Perkins and Institutional loan programs. Judi is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, procurement, property management, mail services, and printing services. She has served in various positions within the Division of Finance and Operations since 1987. Prior to joining WPI, with degrees from Smith College, the University of Connecticut (MA), and Babson College (MBA), Judi worked in public accounting and became a certified public accountant.
