Deborah C. Scott
- Chief Information Officer
CIO Deborah Scott leads the Information Technology Services division and oversees a broad range of IT strategies and services for WPI. This includes Academic Research Computing, Academic Technology Center for teaching and learning, Enterprise Information Systems, Hosting Services for administrative and academic software applications, Support Services, Networking, Telecommunications, Information Security, as well as high-speed Internet2 through the Goddard GigaPop, to both WPI and surrounding colleges and nonprofit organizations. Deborah leads through a collaborative process; empowering IT staff to partner at all levels within the organization to design optimal technical solutions for WPI. Previously, Scott was Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer for the Division of Student Affairs at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her information systems and technology experience prior to higher education was in public technology focused companies, including, QAD, Rockwell International and Raytheon. She earned a BS in electrical engineering from California State University, and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Jon Bartelson, '01
- Associate CIO
Jon is directly responsible for the strategy, implementation, maintenance, and support of WPI's enterprise systems and services infrastructure, including effective IT service delivery. He leads an exceptional team of systems & database administrators, developers and customer service experts to ensure that the university's IT services are of the highest quality. Jon also works directly with the CIO and senior IT leadership on strategic and budget planning, and to foster collaboration across all IT service providers.
Jon holds a BS in computer science from WPI, an MBA from Bentley University, and a JD from Suffolk University Law School. He is an attorney and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Worcester County Bar Association. Mary Beth Harrity
- Director, Academic Technology Center
Mary Beth provides leadership and direction for the use of educational technology to improve, extend, or enhance the academic mission of WPI. She oversees the administration of Blackboard (our learning management system) and many other technologies that enrich face-to-face as well as online learning. Mary Beth’s team also manages the design, installation, and maintenance of the AV technology used in our classrooms, conference rooms, and other technology-enabled facilities, and provides AV support for the wide variety of events that take place all over campus. Mary Beth assists the CIO with the IT capital budget planning process, and contributes to general budget preparation, analysis, and reporting. - Director, Academic and Research Computing
A WPI alumnus with his BS and MS in mechanical engineering, Sia provides vision and leadership in developing strategic plans and policies to guide and manage research computing infrastructure and support at WPI. Sia and his team support and manage research data and high-performance computer clusters to accommodate the expanding WPI research mission and meet federal guidelines for research data management.
In addition, Sia acts as a liaison between the Information Technology (IT) and academic departments concerning IT planning, and support of academic and research missions. His team also leads the area of scientific and engineering application training and support for faculty course development, and student course and project preparation. He coordinates with academic departmental heads, departmental IT staff, faculty, and technical staff to plan, improve, and promote academic computing and technology support. He also negotiates contracts for new academic computing software and maintains a central inventory of software and hardware contracts, licenses, and maintenance agreements. Morgan Hall, Lower Wedge
- Assistant CIO, Information Security, Networking & Telecommunications
Sean is responsible for numerous IT systems and projects that support the WPI campus. He oversees WPI network operations, network architecture, information security, data integrity, telecommunications, campus access systems, surveillance, IT policy development, server rooms, and WPI’s disaster recovery site. Sean is the lead on IT project needs coordination, working with multiple partners across campus in the strategic planning and budgeting of each project. He also leads the servicing of the Goddard GigaPop which provides high speed/Internet2 connectivity to Worcester area educational and non-profit institutions.
Sean holds a BS in electrical and computer engineering from WPI. He is an active member of REN-ISAC, WPI’s point of contact with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), and annually hosts representatives from local police departments and the FBI on behalf of InfraGard Boston. - IT Operations Manager
Heidi is responsible for the day-to-day management of the IT operating budget, purchasing, licenses, and contracts. This includes assisting the CIO and IT managers with the operating budget preparation, analysis, and reporting. Heidi also manages cell phone contracts and purchasing and billing for the campus, as well as oversees the IT administrative staff and office management. Heidi brings a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems and an associate’s degree in management from Bentley University to her role as IT operations manager.

- Administrative Assistant
Lisa supports the CIO and the operations manager, as well as manages the IT office, including all incoming calls and walk-ins to the office. Lisa handles purchase orders, invoice payments, accounting transactions, and employee forms, and also supervises the IT Office student staff and maintains student records for all of IT.
