General Information

Arriving at WPI

New students should plan to arrive at WPI beginning at 9:00 AM on Sunday, August 19.   Please note that we are unable to accommodate earlier arrivals.  If you are arriving in Worcester by plane, train or bus, Arrow Taxi Cab at +1-508-756-5184 or Yellow Cab at +1-508-754-3211 can bring you to campus.  The easiest way to get from Logan Airport/Boston to the WPI campus is by Worcester Airport Limousine Service. The cost is approximately $40.00 per person one-way for WPI students; 48 hours notice is preferred.  Call 1-508-756-4834 or 1-800-660-0992.  Knights Airport Limousine Service also offers a student discount of $40 one way from Boston Logan or T.F. Green to WPI. Call 1-800-822-5456 to make reservations. Please indicate that you are a WPI student when making your reservation.

When you arrive on Sunday August 19 you'll be pleased to know that there will be student volunteers from our fraternity and sororities that will help you unload your car and assist you with carrying your things to your room.  You should first unload your car as close as possible to the entrance doors of your residence hall and then immediately move the car to the nearest available parking lot.  Please label all of your boxes with your name and room number so that your belongings can easily be returned to you if misplaced.  Campus Police will assist in directing and moving traffic. Check in at the desk of your Residence Hall, move things into your room, and unpack later. 

After your belongings are in your room, go to the lobby area of Harrington Auditorium (our gymnasium) to check in for Orientation and pick up your Orientation Schedule.  The Orientation Schedule will tell you what is going on throughout the day and will indicate where you should go and what you need to do on Sunday.  The first two things you will do after checking in at the Orientation Registration area will be to obtain an ID card, and attend an important information session related to use of computers on campus and connecting to the WPI computer network.

Parents can wait for you at the Parent Hospitality Center while you get your ID card.  Parents can also attend the computer information session for students.  There will also be workshops which relate to academic issues and student life on campus available for parents throughout the day.  Parents are encouraged to stay on campus until the conclusion of the President's Welcome Barbeque at 5:45 PM. 

Selecting a Bank

WPI has a TD Bank full service automated teller machine located in the WPI Campus Center.  Here is a list of other banks in the area, some within walking distance of WPI.  For your convenience, several of the banks listed will have representatives on campus during Orientation on Sunday, August 21.  At that time you will be able to open checking accounts, saving accounts, etc.  For further information, call the numbers listed below.

Recreational Opportunities

Throughout Orientation you may want to get some exercise. In addition to volleyball games on the Quad, running around the track or playing tennis, check out the pool, bowling alley, and fitness center. Hours are posted on the message board in the lobby of the Alumni Gym.

Everyone who intends to use the Fitness Center must attend a user orientation to the Center.
