Our M.S. in Applied Mathematics will prepare you to use mathematics to solve problems and fuel innovations in a variety of fields. You will gain expertise in the mathematical applications most in demand today as you make important interdisciplinary connections.
Through advanced coursework, you will gain a broad background in mathematics with an emphasis on numerical methods and scientific computation, mathematical modeling, discrete mathematics, materials science, and optimization. You will hone and apply your knowledge to specific fields through elective coursework in topics such as computer science and mechanical engineering, as well as a capstone project with one of our industrial partners.
You can choose to pursue a career in industry or a PhD program in applied mathematics or a related field. Graduates have continued as PhD students at Courant Institute, NYU, University of Colorado, North Carolina State University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, WPI, and more. Others have gone on to careers with prestigious companies such as Alphatech, Mathworks, Microsoft, National Security Agency, Pratt & Whitney, and Raytheon, and many government agencies.
