What You Need to Apply to WPI

If you're applying to WPI as a first-year student, here's what you'll need:

  • Personal email address that you check frequently (which will be the primary way WPI contacts you during the application process)
    • Note: We do not recommend using your school email address
  • $70 application fee
  • Official transcripts from high school
    • First marking period grades are required for Early Decision I applicants; a mid-year grade report is required for Early Decision II applicants
    • First marking period grades or mid-year report are highly recommended for early action and regular decision applicants
  • Letter of recommendation from school counselor
  • Letter of recommendation from teacher
  • Early Decision Agreement (if you’re applying early decision)

WPI is a test-optional institution. It’s up to you whether you’d like to submit your test scores.

The WPI Application Process, Step by Step

1. Set yourself up for success.

Review our college application timeline for tips on your essay, financial aid, and more.

2. Submit your application.

  • All first-year candidates use the Common Application.
  • Tell us who you are and what makes you a fit for WPI.
  • Double-check your answers.

3. Request your required materials.

While you complete the Common App, request your high school transcripts and letters of recommendation.

4. Send your materials to WPI.

  • We prefer applicants to send all materials through the Common App.*
    • Transcripts: Your school or institution should submit your transcripts directly.
    • Letters of recommendation: Your teacher and school counselor should submit their letters directly.
  • Please note: Credentials sent in by the student are not official and will be discarded.

5. Review your application.

  • Watch your email for a receipt from WPI within 48 hours after submitting your application.
  • Check your status to confirm you’re not missing any information needed for WPI to review your application.
