Smart Villages - book cover

The WPI community is invited to join Gordon Library's third Meet the Author event in our 23-24 season to hear from several of the many WPI researchers whose work appears in two volumes of a new book series, Integrated Global STEM, a partnership with publisher DeGruyter.

In Smart Villages, authors make the case that villages should shift from a model of extraction to one of community value creation, and offers case studies of smart village co-design.

Science, Engineering, and Sustainable Development presents community case studies concerning technological interventions in global health, the environment, agriculture, and their ethics.

Science, Engineering, and Sustainable Development: Book Cover

The series, co-edited by Professors Rob Krueger and Anita Mattson, provides a space to share solutions, challenges and insights that advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in areas such as basic infrastructure, engineering design, environment, gender empowerment, food security, health, water and sanitation, accessibility, clean energy, and economic prosperity.

Other WPI faculty and researcher contributors to these two volumes include: Dirk Albrecht, Matthew Desrosiers, Tahar El-Korchi, Mustapha Fofana, Ben Nephew, Pratap Rao, Brigitte Servatius, Sarah Stanlick, Elisabeth Stoddard, Yunus Telliel, Steven Van Dessel, and Pamela Weathers. Both volumes are available at WPI through the Gordon Library: Smart Villages, Science, Engineering, and Sustainable Development.

In addition to sharing an informal conversation and Q&A among the WPI authors and editors of the series, the event will also provide an opportunity to introduce several members of the new WPI Press Advisory Board.  The WPI Press is another partnership with DeGruyter, a distinctive partner of  major university presses from Princeton to Cornell to New York University.

Please mark your calendars today, and we hope to see you on March 20 from 1-2 pm in the Gordon Library Conference Room!  Light refreshments will be served.
