Home to the first-of-its-kind bachelor’s degree in robotics engineering and one of the first graduate programs in the nation, WPI is widely respected for its innovation in the field and its commitment to inspiring young people’s interest and participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
We know you’ve got your pick of colleges and universities, but just as important as academics, research work, and post-graduation opportunities is a place where you feel at home. Here’s why WPI is more than a university—it’s a place you can call home.
The VEX robotics experience aligns closely with the hands-on, team-based, problem-solving focus of the WPI project-based curriculum. At WPI, you can build your career around your passion for designing and building robots. From your first days on campus, you will do much more than study robots—you will build them, interact with them, explore their design and function, and push them to their limits.
Beyond the classroom, you can take part in our many robotics clubs, teams, events, and competitions. WPI has a VEX U team that competes—and often qualifies—for world championships. WPI also hosts several robotics events on campus throughout the year. Whether you’re looking to join a team, watch a competition, or volunteer for an event, the opportunities to engage with robotics at WPI are endless.
WPI proudly celebrates its vibrant robotics community—more than 25% of our students come to campus with high school robotics experience, just like you. It’s the people who bring their passion, creativity, and drive that truly make WPI special and shape the dynamic community they’re proud to call home.
With over 50 STEM-focused programs and majors, WPI provides countless opportunities for students to pursue their interests, discover new passions, develop leadership skills, and build lifelong friendships. With pathways far beyond robotics, you’ll be encouraged to explore issues you’re passionate about and work to solve critical problems—all while making your home on our close-knit campus.
WPI offers scholarships for VEX V5 Robotics Competition (V5RC) and REC Foundation Drone Program alumni. Each year, WPI awards a grand prize scholarship of $80,000 ($20,000 per year, for four years) and two runner-up scholarships of $40,000 ($10,000 per year, for four years).
We know it’s one of the questions on everyone’s minds: once you’re at WPI, what’s it going to be like when you’re out? Your future’s yours to make, but whatever path you decide to follow, myriad financial aid options, hundreds of internship and co-op opportunities, and lifetime career resources ensure that you’ll have the skills, resources, and support you need to succeed. (Oh, and did we mention the average starting salary of $80,294 for the Class of 2024)
Looking for even more reasons to apply? Like we said, there’s an infinite amount of them—fill out the form to request more information on WPI. We can’t wait to hear from you!
