Black History Month at Gordon Library
Department(s):
George C. Gordon LibraryGordon Library joins WPI faculty, staff and students in celebrating Black History Month 2025!
This month we are featuring a display of books by Black authors on the main entrance level of the library. Stop by to browse and borrow books across all genres, from classics to poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels!
On February 21 (Friday) at 11am in the Gordon Library Conference Room (Rm. 303), HUA Professor Lucy Caplan, who teaches courses on African American music, will lead a program about Maud Cuney-Hare (1874-1936), an African American scholar, writer, composer and activist with deep roots in the Boston area. Together with her colleague Prof. Katy Callam (Harvard University), Prof. Caplan has also curated an exhibit about Cuney-Hare's life. The exhibit has been on display at several Boston area institutions and is currently on display in the gallery space on the 3rd floor of the library adjacent to Room 303.
We also invite you to take time this month to explore the library's guide to academic research on African American Studies, produced in consultation with WPI faculty by the library's Research & Instruction team, and featuring selected resources for finding and using primary resources, doing research on civil rights, social justice, African American music, and more.
