China Hub Speaker Series: Dr. Leta Hong Fincher on “Leftover Women and Gender Inequality in China”

Tuesday, February 20, 2024

4:00pm to 5:00pm

Location: Higgins House Great Hall

Join the China Hub’s final event of the year as journalist and scholar Dr. Leta Hong Fincher examines what is behind the rollback of women’s rights in China. An award-winning TV and radio journalist in China and the first American to earn a PhD in Sociology from Tsinghua University, Dr. Hong Fincher will discuss the PRC’s increasingly patriarchal climate, developments like the 3-child policy, online feminist and LGBTQ activism, and plummeting birth rates. She is the author of Leftover Women: The Resurgence of Gender Inequality in China and Betraying Big Brother: The Feminist Awakening in China, both essential reads for anyone interested in women in China.

Mark your calendars today, and please join us in person from 4-5 on February 20.
