WPI to Host Worcester Regional Science & Engineering Fair
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) will host on Friday, March 12, 2010, the 55th Worcester Regional Science & Engineering Fair, one of six regional science fairs that culminate in the annual Massachusetts State High School Science & Engineering Fair.
As they have for more than a half century, senior high school students from throughout Central Massachusetts have put their minds to developing research-based science projects and will now compete for several thousand dollars in awards and prizes. Local scientists, engineers, and medical professionals will volunteer as judges for the competition, and the event is sponsored by local clubs, businesses, colleges, corporations, professional organizations, and individuals.
In addition to the competition, John K. Snyder, professor of chemistry at Boston University, will deliver a talk titled, "Science at Its Best: the Interdisciplinary Nature of Drug Discovery."
The fair takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Odeum. The fair is open to the public 1:30 to 4:45 p.m., and judging takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The awards ceremony starts at 5 p.m., and will be held in Alden Memorial.
