Lieutenant Colonel Dan Murphy is the Professor of Military Science for Army ROTC at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Bay State Battalion. His mission is to recruit, educate, develop, and inspire future U.S. Army commissioned officers. 

His path into the Army began with ROTC. He was commissioned into active duty in 2008 after graduating from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. After commissioning, he deployed twice to Afghanistan as a Transportation Officer. As a Captain, he was selected for Special Forces and earned his Green Beret. He joined the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), where he commanded a 12-person Special Forces Operational Detachment and later a company, with deployments to Honduras and two additional deployments to Afghanistan. 

After graduating from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and earning his master's degree in Global and International Studies from the University of Kansas, LTC Murphy served in senior staff and interagency roles with U.S. Special Operations Command and the Intelligence Community, deploying to Jordan, Iraq, and Syria. He most recently served as the Joint Special Operations Command representative to the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

LTC Murphy's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Department of State Meritorious Honor Award. He has also earned the Parachutist Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab. 

A Massachusetts native, LTC Murphy returned home with his wife and young daughter after more than 18 years of Army service. Throughout his career, he has been passionate about service, developing others, and leading under pressure. He now applies those experiences to developing the next generation of Army officers.
