Joel Kearns

Joel Kearns is a part-time PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering at WPI. He works full time as a member of the United States Government Senior Executive Service of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He is currently Deputy Director of the Space Flight Systems Directorate at NASA John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. There he provides executive direction of solar electric propulsion, cryogenic fluid management, radioisotope power, advanced communications and microgravity physical science research for NASA. He specializes in solidification and single ...

B.S. in Material Science and Engineering, Nanjing University, China, 2012 M.S. in Material Science and Engineering, WPI, US, 2014 Ph.D. candidate in Material Science and Engineering, WPI, US, 2018 Mr. Pan joined the Integrative Material Design Center (iMdc) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute since 2012. His expertise is in areas of friction stir welding (FSW), metallurgy and micro-structure analysis, fracture and failure analysis, computational simulation and modeling, and composite materials.

Mr. Porzio received his B.S. in Physics from Ithaca College in 2014, where he did research on PLD growth of YBCO. Jeff joined iMdc in August 2014 with the goal of pursuing a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. His PhD project will focus on creating novel Al matrix nano-composites and developing a theoretical model to explain their properties.

Madhusree Chowdhury
