WPI's 95-plus acre campus sits high on a hill in historic Worcester, Massachusetts. This convenient central location puts students close to all the best the city has to offer, including the Worcester Art Museum, the world-renowned American Antiquarian Society, and Polar Park--home to the Worcester Red Sox.

Directions to Main Campus from the North
  1. Take I-495 south or I-190 south to I-290 W.
  2. Take Exit 21 (old exit 18) (Lincoln Sq., Rte. 9), turn right at end of ramp, then an immediate right before next traffic light.
  3. At next light, proceed straight through, bearing to the right on Salisbury St.
  4. At the WPI sign, turn left onto Boynton St., then right onto Institute Rd.
  5. Take your first right. This private driveway provides drop-off access to the Bartlett Center, Alden Hall, and other buildings, as well as handicap parking. 
Directions to Main Campus from the East
  1. Take Mass. Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 106 (old exit 11A) (I-495).
  2. Proceed north to exit 65B (old exit 25B) (I-290), then west into Worcester.
  3. Take Exit 21 (old exit 18) (Lincoln Sq., Rte. 9), turn right at end of ramp, then an immediate right before next traffic light.
  4. At next light, proceed straight through, bearing to the right on Salisbury St.
  5. At the WPI sign, turn left onto Boynton St., then right onto Institute Rd.
  6. Take your first right. This private driveway provides drop-off access to the Bartlett Center, Alden Hall, and other buildings, as well as handicap parking. 
Directions to Main Campus from the South and West
  1. Take Mass. Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 90 (old exit 10) (Auburn). Take I-395N or MA-146N (exit 21 to I-290) for points south.
  2. Proceed east on I-290 into Worcester.
  3. Take Exit 17 (Lincoln Sq., Rte. 9), turn left at end of ramp, follow Rte. 9 west through Lincoln Sq., straight onto Highland St., then right at light onto West St.
  4. Travel one block and cross Institute Road, turning into the private road. This private driveway provides drop-off access to the Bartlett Center, Alden Hall, and other buildings, as well as handicap parking.

Directions to the Park Avenue Garage

Primary access into the garage will be from Salisbury Street, with secondary access available from the northbound lane of Park Ave. This entrance includes a driveway shared with the First Baptist Church and should be traveled with care and caution due to its proximity to First Friends Childcare Center. 

In addition to providing a significantly increased number of parking spaces for employees, commuter students, and visitors, the garage will support campus event parking.

 

Directions to the Park Avenue Garage from the North
  1. Take I-495 South or 1-190 South to I-290 W.

Parking Rules and Restrictions

Parking on Campus

Parking on WPI's Campus property is for members of the WPI community who have registered their vehicles with the WPI Police Department, in accordance with WPI's Parking and Traffic Regulations. These parking and traffic regulations apply to all personnel including all faculty, staff, students and other persons who operate any motor vehicles on campus or other land of the College.

Assigned parking locations on campus are identified for employees, students, and visitors.

Eligibility

Permission to operate a vehicle on the WPI campus or other land owned by the university is a discretionary privilege bestowed by the president, through the Board of Trustees; such privilege may be denied, revoked, suspended, or modified by action of the board or the president and/or designee herein authorized to take such actions.  

Visitor Parking (Parking Pass Required)

Parking spaces marked “Visitor Parking Only” are reserved for WPI visitors and guests (please note all visitor signs state permit required). These spaces are located in the following areas:

  • 8 visitor spaces in the Park Avenue Garage
  • 2 visitor spaces next to Washburn on the Boynton Hall Service Road
  • 8 visitor spaces in the Boynton Street Lot
  • 7 visitor spaces in the West Street Lot
  • 4 visitor spaces on John Wing Road in front of Higgins House
  • Surface lots adjacent to 60 Prescott Street or the Gateway Parking Garage

All visitors must obtain a temporary parking pass when parking on campus. WPI Police has two types of visitor passes, a hanging pass that can be picked up at WPI Police and an electronic pass that can be issued to the department heads and/or a designee.
