The Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME) has curated an Interfaith Calendar with a number of religious holidays and holy days students and employees might be observing during the 2026-2027 Academic Year. The religious holidays and observances included in this resource are neither exclusive nor exhaustive. This resource is a snapshot for the user's consideration and mindfulness around planning, scheduling, and support of members of the WPI community observing these holidays. ODIME encourages the campus community to use the Interfaith Calendar as a resource when planning events, class exams and deadlines, and more.

These dates and periods of observance mark sacred time in the practices of those who hold identities around religious and religio-cultural traditions. For our campus community, we strive to make the Interfaith Calendar and guidance as accurate as possible and to describe the holy days, their significance, and the nature of observance correctly.

Guidance for Students:

While students are not automatically excused from class, scheduled registration periods, or athletic competitions for observance, they may work with their course instructors, the Registrar (in the case of schedule registration dates), or their coaches for accommodation and are encouraged to speak with faculty/coaches in advance of missing academic commitments.

WPI faculty/staff are encouraged to acknowledge and communicate clearly to students about their right to be excused from class or other commitments for observance of religious holidays and that they may work with their course instructors/WPI staff overseeing the activity as appropriate. Including this in the course syllabus and addressing it at the start of each semester will help provide important information to our student population.

Guidance for Employees:

Employees may request Paid Time Off for any religious observance, using accrued Vacation Days or Floating Holidays (Personal Time).

Supervisors are highly encouraged to support an employee’s preference to take leave for their religious observance.

Employees may also request accommodation when their religious beliefs cause a deviation from WPI’s dress code, schedule, basic job duties, or other aspects of employment.

Please consult the policy in the Benefits and Policies Manual and, if applicable, complete this form.
