Vijay Menta Honored with 2026 BostonCIO ORBIE Award
Vijay Menta, Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), has been named a winner of the prestigious 2026 BostonCIO ORBIE Awards, earning the Corporate ORBIE Award for organizations with up to $500 million in annual revenue. The award, presented on June 12, 2026 at the Renaissance Boston Seaport District, is the premier recognition for technology executives in New England, honoring exceptional leadership, innovation, and business impact among CIOs.
Since joining WPI in 2023, Vijay has led a transformative evolution of the university’s Information Technology Services department, positioning the organization as a strategic partner to the institution. His leadership is defined by a strong cultural foundation through the AEIOU values framework—Accountability, Excellence, Inclusion, Openness, and User Experience—which has fostered collaboration, retention, and high performance across a team of more than 120 staff and student workers. Under his direction, WPI has delivered significant innovation and measurable results, including consolidating data center operations, migrating HPC to the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC), modernizing campus emergency communications through the WPI Safe mobile platform, establishing the AI Infrastructure Subcommittee, redesigning IT governance, strengthening portfolio transparency, and elevating financial accountability.
The ORBIE Awards recognize CIOs who demonstrate excellence in leadership, the ability to deliver business value through technology, and meaningful engagement within their organizations and communities. Vijay is currently supporting WPI strategic initiatives as leader of the Operational Efficiency Task Force. His impact extends well beyond campus through his engagement with organizations such as NERCOMP and EDUCAUSE and his leadership in advancing collaboration across the higher education and technology sectors. His recognition as an ORBIE Award winner underscores his role as a leader who not only drives institutional success but also helps shape the future of technology leadership in higher education and across New England.
