Professor Eggleston’s research is focused on natural materials and how they interact with the environment in which we live. His teaching interests include scientific and technical aspects of geochemistry, solar energy and semiconductor electrochemistry, surface and interface chemistry, and thermodynamics. Professor Eggleston says the next generation of civil, architectural, and environmental engineers must tackle the redesign and reconstruction of global infrastructure for new energy, transportation, food, water, and environmental systems. He has provided interviews on the various ways climate change is affecting infrastructure, in part, through more frequent heavy rainfall that challenges the capacity of drainage and stormwater management systems. He also has a demonstrated record of innovation as a co-inventor on multiple patents in the area of atomic force microscopy.
