Expert Bio

Catherine Whittington conducts research that seeks to help better understand and treat diseases. She leverages advanced materials and cell-based systems, such as creating realistic 3D models of human tissues, to study how diseases develop and eventually test new therapies. Whittington can speak about how more accurate models can improve the testing of medication. She is developing laboratory models to study fibrosis in the pancreas, skin, and uterine fibroids. She also conducts tissue engineering research that explores the role of tissue stiffening in pancreatic cancer, cancer metastasis, and lymphedema.
