Course Information

By covering basic concepts in aerodynamics, the Aerospace Engineering program explores the science of flight. Topics such as drag, streamlining, airfoil stall and aircraft design will be studied. Participants learn how wings and aircraft create lift to fly. Wind- and water-tunnel experiments are conducted to visualize the airflow over aircraft, and computer simulations are run for different airfoil shapes. Participants will design and build a simple model aircraft using what they have learned.

In this course, we will review basic electrical phenomena and define the electrical quantities and units that we need to communicate as electrical engineers. We will learn about some of the fundamental electrical laws and 
basic equations to help to us understand and predict how electricity behaves. We will also learn how basic electronic components work and how to put them together to make useful electronic devices. Buy the end of the course you will learn how to solder and build a kit that you can keep and show what you have learned in this course. Some topics discussed include:

• Charge, Voltage, Current and Power.
• Types of electrical signals, DC and AC.
• Basic passive elements which are Wires, Resistance, Capacitance and Inductance.
• Voltages sources.
• Ohms Law and Kirchhoff’s two Laws.
• DC motors.
• Mosfets to be used to drive the motor,
• OP-Amps and applications.
• Example circuit, using a Thermistor and a OP-Amp (used as a Comparator) to control a DC Motor.
• Timers

At the crossroads of engineering, biology, and medicine lies an exciting scientific field making historic breakthroughs that are extending lives and vastly improving the quality of life. This field is biomedical engineering, and WPI is at the forefront of research that is leading to many of these breathtaking developments. This program will enable the students to start looking at the world with the eyes of a biomedical engineer and open doors for amazing possibilities in this field as they pursue new directions.

In this program, participants will perform hands-on lab activities to understand and learn the fundamentals of biomedical engineering and its sub-branches including bio-instrumentation, biomedical signal measurement, and biomedical signal and data processing. The participants will specifically learn how biomedical devices play a part in improving the lives of people and improving society.

Biology is the foundation of medicine, shaping everything from how our cells function to how diseases develop and are treated. In this pre-health program, you’ll dive into the essential principles that drive modern healthcare. We’ll explore key topics such as human anatomy, physiology and genetics, that are central to understanding conditions like cancer, infectious diseases, metabolic disorders, and more.

Through hands-on lab activities, case-based learning, and interactive demonstrations, you will learn how scientists and physicians investigate biological systems and diagnose disease. By examining both healthy and diseased systems, you will gain insight into how the body works and how medical interventions are developed. You’ll leave with a strong foundation in biological inquiry, exposure to medical and research careers, and a deeper understanding of the science that underlies human health - an exciting step toward your future in medicine.
