Explore Freely Before Committing

You’re allowed to not know your tech major yet. Our flexible curriculum lets you explore computer science, data science, cybersecurity, and more through hands-on projects. You’re free to test, pivot, or completely change direction as you go. Immersive computing experiences help you discover your niche, without the pressure of picking it on day one.

Knowing Starts with Doing

Real, hands-on coding and building start your first term. Instead of waiting to touch a real system, you get a live preview of what a career securing networks, shaping AI, or building software could actually look like.

Build AI systems that address real problems

Create machine learning models for mental health detection using Amazon cloud infrastructure. Develop AI-driven trading systems and intelligent tutoring platforms. Design neural networks that predict outcomes from real medical data.

Design games and interactive experiences

Build VR experiences to preserve Venice's historic bell towers. Create educational games for middle school science education. Work on interactive digital touchscreens for museums reaching thousands of visitors.

Secure critical systems and networks

Develop strong authentication systems and Windows GUI context extraction tools. Build cybersecurity solutions that safeguard the online presence of vulnerable populations. Create digital forensics tools for real organizations.

Transform data into actionable insights

Analyze emergency services data to improve response times. Build dashboards for forex trading risk analysis. Create predictive models that help organizations make data-driven decisions.

The Unusual Way You Learn Here

Curiosity is your only prerequisite. This is a place to build your technical portfolio, of course, but also your problem-solving skills, leadership experience, and confidence. WPI’s unconventional model gives you room to focus, discover, and experiment risk-free, so you can figure out exactly where in tech you want to go.

7-Week Terms

Intensive focus on 3 courses at a time means deeper learning and real project completion. No more semester-long slogs, you always see the finish line.

Projects From Day One

Build real software for actual clients starting your first year, not after graduation. You graduate with a portfolio, not just a transcript.

Collaborative Culture

Work in teams like real tech companies do, no cutthroat competition. The person next to you is a future colleague, not a rival.

No Failing Grades

A, B, C, or NR system encourages taking risks and exploring new technologies. Failure to learn is impossible when the system is built to support you.

Personal Attention

13:1 student-faculty ratio means professors actually know your name. Get real mentorship from researchers who are building the future of tech.

Simple Philosophy

Go to class. Do the work. Ask for help. It works. Never coded before? Perfect, we start with the basics and build from there.

Find Your Computing Strength

Not sure which path fits you best? Take 30 seconds to discover your computing destiny.

Choose what excites you most

First, choose your computing strength

All my favorite classes at WPI have involved projects and group work. In Object-Oriented Design class, for example, my partner and I built a particle collision simulator that, once we got the physics right, displayed all the particles in a turkey shape for Thanksgiving.

Wilson Gramer '26, BS in Computer Science

Where Computing Grads Work

Microsoft, Google, Amazon, SpaceX, Epic Games, IBM, Intel, Unity, MongoDB, Fidelity Investments, Raytheon/RTX, Dell Technologies, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, National Grid, Symbotic, and many more.

Take Your Code Global: Work on projects at 50+ locations worldwide through the Global Projects Program. Recent projects include developing Google Docs add-ons like docASSIST, creating cloud-based financial technology API integrations with IBM, and building software infrastructure that empowers teachers in developing nations.
