Your FIRST experience already reflects the kind of learning WPI is known for—hands-on, collaborative, and driven by real challenges. Through WPI’s project-based curriculum, you won’t just study robotics concepts; you’ll actually apply them. From your first year, you’ll design, build, test, and refine systems while working alongside peers who share your passion for innovation.
Opportunities to stay involved in robotics extend well beyond your coursework. WPI is home to a wide range of student-led teams, clubs, and competitions that keep the momentum going. Many students continue their journey through FIRST-inspired pathways, while others explore new areas of robotics through research, design teams, and campus-hosted events. However you choose to engage, you’ll find a community that’s constantly building, competing, and innovating.
You won’t be starting from scratch. Many WPI students arrive with a background in robotics programs like FIRST. That shared experience creates an immediate sense of connection. It’s a community defined by curiosity, teamwork, and a drive to solve meaningful problems.
With more than 50 STEM-focused majors and programs, WPI gives you the flexibility to expand your interests beyond robotics. Whether you want to deepen your technical expertise, explore interdisciplinary work, or develop leadership skills, you’ll have the support and resources to do it, all within a collaborative, close-knit campus.
WPI recognizes the dedication of students involved in programs like FIRST. Since 1996, WPI has offered scholarships to students coming out of these programs. We currently offer two full-tuition scholarships, as well as three $40,000 awards ($10,000 per year), to alumni of the FIRST programs.
