Financial Technology (FinTech) continues to redefine global financial services—reshaping payments, asset management, digital banking, and market infrastructure through advances in artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain systems, and data-driven innovation. As a STEM-driven institution, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) remains committed to supporting breakthrough research in digital finance and developing future leaders who will guide this evolving sector. This conference provides a platform for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers to explore emerging ideas, share findings, and discuss the evolving landscape of financial technology. 
The WPI Business School, in collaboration with FLAME University is proud to host the second Northeast US FinTech conference, following the inaugural 2023 event. The 2026 conference, themed “FinTech Frontiers: AI, Blockchain, and the Evolution of Digital Finance,” will take place Thursday, October 22 – Friday, October 23, 2026, at WPI in Worcester, Massachusetts. This event aims to convene scholars, industry practitioners, and policymakers from the United States and around the world. The participants will examine the most urgent challenges and opportunities shaping FinTech today, with emphasis on payment innovation, digital asset infrastructure, stablecoins, CBDCs, and the regulatory transformations that accompany them. The conference will create a collaborative space for presenting new research, discussing policy implications, and debating the future of digital finance in an era of rapid technological change.

Professor Kwamie Dunbar
Interim Dean of the Business School, WPI 
 

Dr. Dunbar is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Finance at WPI. In addition to his extensive experience in teaching and research, he has a wealth of industry experience working with several fortune 500 companies in various capacities.

Professor Dunbar's research has appeared in leading economics and finance journals such as Quantitative Finance, Economic Modeling, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Research in International Business and Finance, amongst others. His research has received considerable attention via citations, and he regularly presents his work at leading international conferences and writes media pieces. His current research examines Blockchain assets for Social Good and Sustainability. His primary research focus is empirical asset pricing, and cryptocurrencies, with a focus on FinTech and futures markets. His transformational work has contributed to various areas in finance that focus on digital assets, financial technologies, and digital transformation from the perspectives of finance and economics.

Dr. Eugene Okyere-Yeboah
Professor of Practice, WPI Business School
Managing Director, FinTech Project Center



Dr. Eugene Okyere-Yeboah is a Professor of Practice in the WPI Business School and Managing Director of the FinTech Project Center. His work focuses on financial technology, digital finance, and the application of quantitative methods to real-world financial problems, connecting academic research with industry practice.
He holds a BSc in Pure Mathematics (First Class Honors) from the University of Essex, an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Empirical Financial Economics from City, St George’s, University of London, and an MS in Computational Finance from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. He also earned a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Sustainable Finance from Sacred Heart University. Through his teaching, mentoring, and project-based collaborations, Dr. Okyere-Yeboah helps prepare the next generation of leaders in FinTech and modern financial markets.

Director, Laboratory for Financial Engineering

MIT Sloan School of Management

Andrew W. Lo is a leading global voice in financial innovation and one of the most influential figures in modern finance. He is the Charles E. and Susan T. Harris Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management and Director of the Laboratory for Financial Engineering. His work bridges economics, data science, and behavioral research to advance understanding in adaptive markets, AI-driven finance, healthcare finance, and impact investing.

Lo’s groundbreaking contributions have earned him Guggenheim and Sloan Fellowships, the Paul A. Samuelson Award, the Eugene Fama Prize, the Markowitz Award, and recognition as one of TIME’s “100 Most Influential People.” He is also a Fellow of the American Finance Association, the Econometric Society, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

A prolific researcher and author of Adaptive Markets, Lo continues to shape the future of financial economics while advising and founding organizations across asset management, biotechnology, and deep-tech innovation. He holds degrees from Yale University (BA) and Harvard University (AM, PhD).

Roger G. Ibbotson 

Professor in the Practice Emeritus of Finance at Yale School of Management. 

He is chairman of Zebra Capital Management, LLC, an equity investment, index, and hedge fund manager. He is founder, advisor and former chairman of Ibbotson Associates, now a Morningstar Company. He has written numerous books and articles including Stocks Bonds Bills and Inflation with Rex Sinquefield (updated annually) which serves as a standard reference for information and capital market returns. Professor Ibbotson conducts research on a broad range of financial topics, including popularity, liquidity, investment returns, mutual funds, international markets, portfolio management, and valuation. He has recently published Popularity: A Bridge between Classical and Behavioral Finance and Lifetime Financial Advice. He has also co-authored The Equity Risk Premium with William Goetzmann and two books with Gary Brinson, Global Investing and Investment Markets. He is a regular contributor and editorial board member to both trade and academic journals.

Professor Ibbotson served on numerous boards, including Dimensional Fund Advisors’ funds. He frequently speaks at universities, conferences, and other forums. He received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Purdue University, his MBA from Indiana University, and his PhD from the University of Chicago where he taught for more than ten years and served as executive director of the Center for Research in Security Prices.
