Tony Dixon Receives ACS Petroleum Research Fund Grant

Department(s):

Chemical Engineering

The Board of Directors of the American Chemical Society has approved the recommendation of The ACS Petroleum Research Fund Advisory Board that WPI chemical engineering professor Anthony Dixon receive an ACS PRF grant in the amount of $110,000 for the period 9/1/2016 through 8/31/2018 in support of your proposed research.

Dixon’s research, titled “Understanding local dynamic responses of fixed bed reactors by CFD,” will develop and employ computational fluid dynamics approaches to fundamentally understand the dynamic, transient response of fixed bed reactors. Although the research is fundamental in nature, as a reviewer commented, “it is also very strong related to many current (and future) chemical processes, where the design, operation and control strategies critically depend on [this understanding].” Results will enable improvements in process efficiencies and the development of novel multifunctional reactors.
