Oliver Thomas won the 60-meter hurdle title as Men's Track & Field team placed third at the 2019 NCAA Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT. It is the program's best indoor finish and second only to the 1987 outdoor championship team overall. Thomas' 8.08 also serves as a new school record and the fourth-ranked time on the NCAA Division III performance list. Ben Steevesset a personal best with a 1:21.76 in the 600-meter run and was called upon as a substitute in the All-New England 4x400m (third) and distance medley (sixth).

Carley DykstraSydney Packard and Katy Nippert each won an individual title as Women's Track & Field team placed eighth at the 2019 NCAA Division III New England Championships hosted by Bowdoin. It is the best team finish since tying for eighth at the 2003 meet while the 44.5 points is the most in program history.  Dykstra secured the pole vault title with a clearance of 12-2 while Packard claimed the 800-meter run in a new Farley Field House record time of 2:12.87 and Nippert leaped 18-3 for top billing in the long jump.

Jack Bauer was selected as the NEWMAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year as the 2019 conference championship meet came to a close Sunday night in the Sports & Recreation Center. As a team, the Engineers placed third with 857 points.  Bauer, who previously claimed 2015-16 Rookie of the Year and 2016-17 Co-Swimmer of the Year hardware, completed the backstroke sweep for the second consecutive year with a NEWMAC open and meet record, as well as a WPI record, with a B cut and 2018 NCAA invited time of 1:45.17 in the 200.

Women's swimming & diving team placed sixth at the 2019 NEWMAC Championship which was held in the Sports & Recreation Center Thursday through Sunday. Katherine Pawlak notched a third-place, and school record, 23.89 in the 50-yard freestyle and Molly Sykes made a trio of individual A final appearances for the Engineers. Individually, the pair accounted for nearly 100 of the team’s 605 points, which was good for sixth in the 10-team competition.

Tyler Marsh became WPI’s first champion in a regional qualifier since 2004 and Michael Curtis also qualified for the national championship to highlight a busy day two for the Engineers Sunday at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Wrestling Championships hosted by Johnson & Wales. The strong Sunday showing propelled the Engineers, who began the day in sixth place, into fourth with 84.5 points. Marsh becomes WPI’s first champion at a national qualifier since Joe Moskowitz won the same 157-pound weight class at the NECCWA Tournament 15 years ago.

Colin McNamara drained an off-balance 14-foot jumper as time expired to lift fifth-seeded Men’s Basketball to a pulsating 55-53 victory over top-seed and seventh-ranked MIT in a NEWMAC Men's Tournament semifinal contest on Thursday evening.  With the victory, and as a result of a 70-66 win at Babson on Tuesday, WPI advanced to its second straight NEWMAC Tournament championship game.  McNamara finished with game-highs of 13 points and four assists for WPI.  Jake Wisniewski was other double figure scorer for the guests with 11 points of 4-of-5 shooting the floor.

The spring season is upon us.  Baseball and Softball kickoff their Spring Break trips Sunday with Baseball squaring off against Penn State Fayette in a doubleheader in Auburbdale, FL and Softball facing Simmons and Bluffton (OH) in Plant City, FL.  Also this weekend, select Track and Field athletes compete in the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Saturday.
