WPI Athletics, the Women’s Impact Network and the Office of Talent and Inclusion will be welcoming three-time Olympian and World Cup Champion, Kristine Lilly to campus on Wednesday, March 20th at 5pm in the Rubin Campus Center Odeum. She will be joined by UMass Lowell Associate Professor of Political Science Jeffrey Gerson. Together they will be giving a presentation about the US Soccer Women’s National Team’s Fight for Gender Equity.  (Link)



Austin LindnerJordan DeDonatoMichael Fraser all batted .500 and combined for eight RBI while Steven Gallagher and Tyrone Patterson each accumulated five hits, including eight for extra bases, as Baseball split a baseball twinbill with New England College Saturday at the New England Baseball Complex. The Engineers (11-3) won the first part of the seven-plus hour marathon 22-21 and the Pilgrims (10-4) return to Henniker with a 6-5 victory in the nightcap. Trailing 14-2 through 4 1/2 innings of the opener, Ryan Tropeano belted what proved to be the game-winning swing with a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Six from Men’s Swimming and Diving will head to Greensboro, NC for the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday-Saturday.  Jack Bauer is the top seed in the 100 backstroke and second seed in the 200 backstroke.  Clayton Besch and Jackson Perry also swim individual events while the trio are joined by Dave Chen, Craig Barrett and Jean Philippe Miralda in relays. Softball makes its New England home debut with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday versus Westfield State and Emerson respectively while Baseball is at home at the New England Baseball Complex Tuesday against Gordon, Friday versus Fitchburg State and Saturday with a doubleheader against Plymouth State.  All games are weather permitting!

Men’s Student-Athlete of the Week

Jordan DeDonato - Baseball - Sophomore - Danvers, MA

Jordan DeDonato of the baseball team has been honored as the WPI Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 17th. The sophomore hit a team-best .545 (6-for-11) to go with four walks and three RBI in a 2-2 week. He also posted a slugging percentage of .545 and a team-high on-base percentage of .667. DeDonato’s week was highlighted by a 3-for-5 outing with two RBI versus Brandeis and a 2-for-4 game with an RBI and three runs scored in the middle game versus New England College.

Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week

Katie Martin - Softball - Sophomore - Bedford, NH

Katie Martin from the softball team has been selected as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 17th.  Martin, went 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA while striking out 28 batters in 26 innings over six appearances, including four starts and a pair of complete games, during the Engineers stay at the Sunkissed Games. After striking out five in her season debut versus Bluffton, Martin set down a career-high 11 against Illinois College. The sophomore then sandwiched a six K performance opposite Muskingum with three in each game with Ohio Northern.
