Knowledge Management and Generative Technologies, Dr. D. Matthew Boyer, Clemson University
12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
We live in an era of information overload and the data deluge. While generative AI promises to summarize and synthesize our world, it often compounds the problem by generating plausible but unverified content. How do we move from simply hoarding digital files to actually mobilizing knowledge for creativity and action?
This interactive seminar explores the intersection of Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) and Artificial Intelligence. We will examine how to transform static archives into a dynamic "Second Brain" using tools like Notion and Obsidian. We will discuss the critical role of human oversight in the AI pipeline, specifically how to "confidence gate" messy inputs (like speech-to-text) to ensure we are building a trusted knowledge base rather than a digital landfill. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises to test how we organize, verify, and activate knowledge in the age of AI.
Dr. D. Matthew Boyer is a Research Associate Professor of Engineering & Science Education in the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences at Clemson University in Upstate South Carolina.
