Strategic Supplier Development and Segmentation in the Product Deletion and Circularity Context

Yildizbasi, A., Zhu Q., Kouhizadeh, M., Sarkis, J.

Abstract

The implementation of circularity in the automotive industry presents significant challenges due to varying standards, ambiguity in performance measurement, and diverse contextual factors. This research focuses on understanding the implications of product deletion and its impact on supplier relationships within the circular economy. By examining the risks associated with supply chain circularity performance, the study proposes a framework for effectively managing the product deletion process through strategic supplier segmentation. The framework takes into account sustainability, operational supply chain risks, and risk mitigation strategies, emphasizing the importance of supplier development. To categorize various suppliers based on the risk factors for product deletion in a circular economy setting, we propose a joint methodology using the Best-Worst Method (BWM) and Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (IF) with TOPSIS (Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution). This study provides valuable insights for managing supply chain risks and achieving effective circularity outcomes.
