Abstract:
UAVs are used in the electric industry for the inspection of several transmission, distribution & substation assets. These UAVs operate in strong electromagnetic fields (EMF), which pose potential risks to both the electric assets and the UAV itself due to navigation failures. This study aims to use LiDARs to track UAV trajectories using Extended Kalman Filters and probabilistic data association algorithms, to determine if the UAVs are affected by these EMFs. If they are affected, then to determine a safe distance for them to operate near these assets without electromagnetic interference.
