Professor Mattson is an organic synthetic chemist whose research has a strong medicinal chemistry component. The current focus of her work is the synthesis and study of new families of non-covalent catalysts that can be used to synthesize ring structures that frequently appear in naturally occurring bioactive compounds, with the long-term goal of creating naturally-inspired medicinal agents.
