Experts on biomanufacturing
Biomanufacturing uses biological systems, including microorganisms, animal and plant cells and tissues, and enzymes, to make valuable biomolecules for use in the agricultural, food, materials, energy, and pharmaceutical industries. In addition to conducting research on biomanufacturing, WPI is home to the Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center (BETC), which provides training and contract services to the biomanufacturing industry, and is a member of Bioconnects, a regional biomanufacturing coalition. WPI experts on biomanufacturing can speak about such biomanufacturing processes as fermentation and cell culture, on tissue engineering (a form of biomanufacturing that focuses on restoring and repairing tissue and treating disease), and the manufacture of pharmaceuticals using plants, among other areas.
