Karen Hebert-Maccaro, associate dean of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) School of Business, will deliver a presentation, "Take Control Of Your Career By Managing Yourself," on June 8 at the Worcester Women's Leadership Conference.

The interactive presentation will introduce participants to a talent management strategy with four actionable tactics: identifying one's key differentiators, mapping one's network, influencing without authority, and building an actionable development plan.

"Given the rate of change expected in the lifetime career trajectories of most people, being proactive about managing your career is more important now than ever," Hebert-Maccaro said. "Women experience this to some extent more than men, in that there are still many inequities in the way organizations attract, hire, pay, and promote talent. My session at the conference will focus on providing skills and knowledge in key areas important for managing your own career. It'll be a highly hands-on interactive workshop experience. I'm hoping the women that attend will think differently about the management of their own careers and the careers of others they may supervise or mentor in their organizations."

The conference, to be held at the DCU Center in Worcester, is a day-long event designed to inspire and motivate women through speakers, networking, and supporting women's groups and initiatives. Sponsored by the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, it is expected to draw 200-300 area professionals. For more information see Worcester Women's Leadership Conference.
