Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship provides scholarship support to outstanding sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate award of its type in these fields. The Goldwater Foundation seeks scholars who demonstrate a strong commitment and passion for doing research and who exhibit the creative spark that will make them leaders in their fields. Involvement in research as an undergraduate is highly desirable.

What they’re looking for

  • Full-time sophomore or junior pursing a degree at a 2-or-4-year institution
  • Intending to pursue a research career in a natural science, mathematics or engineering focus
  • 3.0 (4.0 scale) GPA or higher

The Goldwater Foundation accepts nominations from institutions – students may not apply independently. To be considered as a nominee for the Goldwater Scholarship, interested students must first complete the Student Profile and Goldwater Scholarship Pre-Application and email Hallie Johnson at hjohnson1@wpi.edu no later than October 31, 2024. The Student Profile and Pre-Application consists of a short Student Profile (Name, email address, telephone number, etc.) and Pre-application (Year in school, major, GPA, brief career interest statement, highest degree anticipated, and potential recommendation letter writers). This will help the Campus Goldwater Representative make an initial determination of the strength of your application. Once the Student Profile and Pre-Application is approved, you would get access to the full Goldwater Scholarship application.
