Your Blueprint for Success as a WPI Transfer Student

For transfer students, the process of switching schools can be nerve-racking. Will your credits transfer to your new school? Will you still be able to graduate on time? Are you ready for this?

It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but the transfer agreements between WPI and regional community colleges and programs help provide reassurance. They offer a built-in framework of what courses prospective transfer students to WPI should be taking to prepare themselves for the process.

Keep reading to learn about transfer-eligible courses and WPI’s transfer agreements with various colleges.

Transferring Course Credit at WPI: How It Works

How WPI Reviews Transfer Credit

After a transfer student has been accepted, WPI will begin formally evaluating transfer credit. The WPI Transfer team coordinates the review with faculty evaluators. In some cases, syllabi may be required in order to complete the course review. We do our best to provide updates as soon as possible.

What Courses Will Be Eligible for Credit?

Courses taken at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions that are worth 3 credits or more and typically have a grade of B- or better are considered eligible for an evaluation. Coursework that does not have a direct match may be eligible for general or "free" elective credit. Please be reminded that WPI requires final official college transcripts to post approved credit to a student's account; be sure to plan accordingly.

International Transfer Credit

For students attending a college outside of the US, WPI requires English translations and course-by-course credit evaluations (from a current NACES member) for all non-US transcripts. WPI will also need English translated course descriptions and possibly syllabi for each course you would like reviewed by WPI faculty evaluators for credit.

Transfer Agreements & Course Guides

Framework

WPI has a long history of success with transfer agreements, starting with Quinsigamond Community College here in Worcester in 1989. Our transfer agreement framework for community college students is simple:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Associate’s degree in any academic program
  • Successful completion of one (1) college-level precalculus or calculus I course
  • Successful completion of one (1) laboratory science course

If you achieve all of the above at one of our partner institutions, you are guaranteed admission as a transfer student. If your GPA is 3.0 or higher and you meet the other requirements, you are still encouraged to apply and will be considered for admission.
