Department(s):

Facilities Office

To the WPI Community

I am delighted to announce that Eric Beattie, a leader in higher education facilities management, has joined WPI as the Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities Management. His first day is today, January 8, 2018.

In this newly enhanced role, Eric will provide leadership for the planning and design of the campus to support our mission, vision, and strategic plan. He will play a critical role in developing a long-term vision for campus growth and implement innovative approaches to ensure that university facilities support the educational mission and community.

In particular, Eric will oversee the efficient operational and financial performance of several areas, including Campus Planning, Facilities Operations, Design and Construction, and Environmental Health and Safety.  He will also support the sustainability, energy management, real estate and other physical plant infrastructure of our campus.  Eric will lead the planning, operation, maintenance, renovation, and construction of university buildings and grounds.

Eric, who joins us from Gilbane Building Company in Boston, where he was a Senior Preconstruction Executive, has considerable experience in higher education facilities management. Prior to his work at Gilbane, for 13 years he oversaw significant capital projects at Syracuse University, including the construction of more than a dozen new facilities and numerous renovations and improvements of existing buildings and infrastructure, as part of an $800 million campus investment program. He also served a similar role at Williams College, and began his facilities-management career as a University Engineer at the University of Vermont.

We are excited about this new role and the impact Eric will have on WPI’s footprint. Please join me in welcoming Eric to campus.

Best regards,

Jeffrey Solomon

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
