Why is giving back time to WPI and others important?

In all my endeavors so far, my motto has been: "We rise by lifting others." And no, it is not just a quote I read on social media, but a truth I have embodied from the day I moved from Albania to the U.S. four years ago. The welcoming and supportive environment I found while struggling to learn English, adapting to a new life overseas, taking care of my grandparents and working two part- time jobs, is a big part of the drive to give back to the community. Giving back is not only about enriching your perspective of the world, but it empowers you to better the lives of those around you.

What advice would you give to current students and young alumni?

Avoid the toxic culture of "big impact". We're taught that our actions have to have a big impact to be significant, well, small actions do matter a lot. Save the world one small action at a time, by being kind, giving back, being authentic and determined to mean good and do better.
